In 1697, Spain ceded to the French the western third of the island, which later became Haiti. The French colony, based on forestry and sugar-related industries, became one of the wealthiest in the Caribbean but relied heavily on the forced labor of enslaved Africans and environmentally degrading practices. In the late 18th century, Toussaint L&rsquo;OUVERTURE led a revolution of Haiti&rsquo;s nearly half a million slaves that ended France&rsquo;s rule on the island. After a prolonged struggle, and under the leadership of Jean-Jacques DESSALINES, Haiti became the first country in the world led by former slaves after declaring its independence in 1804, but it was forced to pay an indemnity of 100 million francs (equivalent to $22 billion USD in March 2023) to France for more than a century and was shunned by other countries for nearly 40 years. On 12 July 1862, the US officially recognized Haiti, but foreign economic influence and internal political instability induced the US to occupy Haiti from 1915-1934. Subsequently, <u>Francois \u00ab\u00a0Papa Doc\u00a0\u00bb DUVALIER and then his son Jean-Claude \u00ab\u00a0Baby Doc\u00a0\u00bb DUVALIER led repressive and corrupt regimes that ruled Haiti in 1957-1971 and 1971-1986<\/u>, respectively. President Jovenel MOISE was assassinated on 7 July 2021, leading the country further into an extra-constitutional governance structure and contributing to the country\u2019s growing fragility. On 20 July 2021, the Government of Haiti installed Ariel HENRY &#8211; whom President MOISE had nominated shortly before his death &#8211; as prime minister. <\/em><em>As of March 2023, Haiti had no sitting elected officials<\/em>.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Il est donc ind\u00e9niable, l\u2019apport de la r\u00e9volution ha\u00eftienne dans l\u2019histoire du monde, dans celle des Am\u00e9riques, dans les colonies comme de la m\u00e9tropole fran\u00e7aise, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la probl\u00e9matique contemporaine actuelle, d\u00e9range et rend aigri le colon.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Comment la d\u00e9finir dans les mots du Canada dans les archives du Wilson Center\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00ab<em>With the situation in Haiti deteriorating and illegal emigration on the rise, U.S. policymakers apparently have seen no alternative to heeding the Henry government\u2019s call for an international stabilization mission, a view also shared by the United Nations.\u00a0 But the United States seems prepared only to provide logistical and financial support, not the needed boots on the ground.\u00a0\u00a0 For those,\u00a0<\/em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2023\/03\/21\/canada-united-states-haiti-sanctions\/\"><strong>it has hoped that Canada would take the lead<\/strong><\/a><\/em><em>, together with other countries, possibly from the Caribbean<\/em>\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Notons que les actes dans l\u2019ill\u00e9galit\u00e9. Et, minimalement c\u2019est un crime de haute trahison commis dans une situation sans le mandat r\u00e9publicain, depuis plus de deux ans. Pire, au d\u00e9triment des tissus sociaux, pour r\u00e9pondre aux tentatives av\u00e9r\u00e9es d\u00e9nonc\u00e9es depuis le Rapport F Bausman et cosignataires en avril 1922 qui d\u00e9montre 1915 ill\u00e9gal, mensonger, criminel simplement par Marchaterre [o\u00f9 les descendants Lubin n\u2019ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9dommag\u00e9s], pris dans un massacre o\u00f9 l\u2019agresseur exposait ses crimes dans l\u2019impunit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est cette m\u00eame Am\u00e9rique qui dans le Rapport Bausman (1922) sur l\u2019invasion militaire ill\u00e9gale am\u00e9ricaine en Ha\u00efti, a confisqu\u00e9 les 500.000 USD de la R\u00e9publique d\u2019Ha\u00efti pour les placer dans une banque \u00e0 moiti\u00e9 fran\u00e7ais (Bonapartienne) et moiti\u00e9 new-yorkaise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fin du 3<sup>e<\/sup> et avant-dernier \u00e9l\u00e9ment de r\u00e9flexion\u00a0!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>cet article est publi\u00e9 par l\u2019hebdomadaire Ha\u00efti-Observateur, VOL.
